Chief Michael Almonte
Chief Almonte has served the Yarmouth Police Department
since 1977.
Chief Almonte worked as a Patrol Officer, a Patrol
Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Lieutenant before being
promoted to Deputy Chief in June of 2000.
The Chief has a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice
Administration from Western New England College. He is the
Police Department’s liaison to the Yarmouth Business and
Yarmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chief is an instructor
in Emergency Preparedness, and is a member of the Town’s Crisis
Management Team.
Chief Almonte is responsible for Research and Planning,
Labor Relations, Professional Standards, Injury and Illness
Management, Internal affairs, Budget and Finance preparation and
management.

Deputy Chief
Frank Frederickson
Deputy Frederickson, a second generation Police Officer, started his
career with the Yarmouth Police Department as one of 45 a Summer
Officers in 1977. His first summer assignment was to direct traffic
at the intersection of Rt. 28 & Forest Rd. He returned in the
Summer of 1978 and was assigned to dispatch duty and continued to
work through the Fall season. In January of 1979 he was hired as a
Reserve Officer and worked through the Summer of 1979.
At the end of
the Summer both he and Lt. Stephen Xiarhos were hired as Full Time
Patrol Officers and were sent to the 47th session of the
Barnstable Police Academy which was located off of Mary Dunn Rd. in
Hyannis. Upon graduation he was assigned to Filed Training Officer
Brad Erickson. In 1986 he was assigned to the Detective Division
where he worked a variety cases and coordinated drug
investigations.
In 1994 He
was promoted to Patrol Sergeant and was then assigned as Detective
Sergeant later that year. In June of 2000 He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
and
was further promoted to
the rank of Deputy Chief in April 2008.
Deputy
Frederickson has an Associate Degree from Cape Cod Community
College, a Bachelors Degree from Northeastern University and Master
Degree from Anna Maria College. All degrees are for Criminal
Justice. Deputy Frederickson has also received extensive training .
Deputy Frederickson has received over 40 awards and commendations
including Yarmouth
Police Officer of the Year in 1988,1990 & 1991 |

Lieutenant
Steven Xiarhos
Lieutenant Steven George
Xiarhos was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
He
graduated from New Bedford High School in 1976 and moved to Cape Cod
to
study Law Enforcement at Cape Cod Community College in West
Barnstable.
After receiving his Associates Degree from Cape Cod Community
College in 1978
he went on to further his education by graduating
with a Bachelors Degree in
Criminal Justice from Northeastern
University in Boston in 1983 and a Masters
Degree in Criminal
Justice from Anna Maria College in Paxton in 1984.
Lieutenant Xiarhos
joined the Yarmouth Police Department in June of 1978. He
served as
a Summer Reserve Police Officer for two summers before being
selected as a Full-Time Patrol Officer in September of 1979. After
graduating
from the Barnstable County Police Academy—he served as a
Patrol Officer from
December of 1979 until being selected as a
Detective and the first ever Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School
School Resource Officer in March of 1987. In January of 1996
he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant where he served as the first line
supervisor.
In June of 2000—he was promoted to Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Xiarhos has
attended numerous specialized training courses and is
the recipient
of 18 various police department decorations including Officer of the
Year in 1986 and Citizen of the Year in 1991 and Mothers Against
Drunk Driving
Officer of the Year in 1993.
He is currently serving
as the Patrol Force Commander as well as the Officer in
Charge of
Media Relations—Fleet Maintenance—Citizen Volunteers— Mountain Bike
Patrol—Ceremonial Unit—and the Code Enforcement Impact Team.
Lieutenant Xiarhos is a
resident of Yarmouth and is married with four children.
His oldest
son Nicholas is currently serving our country as a proud member of
the
United States Marine Corps. |

Lieutenant Paul
Rooney
Lt. Rooney has served the Yarmouth Police Department since 1976.
Lt. Rooney was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001 after serving as
Canine
Handler, Civil Rights Officer, Elder Affairs Officer, Patrol
Sergeant, and
Detective Sergeant.
After serving for five years as the Night Patrol Division
Commander, Lt. Rooney
now is responsible for the Accreditation Processes, Facility
systems,
Dispatch operations, Records Division, Court Prosecution,
Private Detail
Coordination, Evidence & Property storage, Elder Affairs,
Emergency Preparedness,
E911 coordination, Domestic Violence Unit, and Civil Rights
